King Alfred School
An addition to and complete refurbishment of the existing Lower School Music Room was completed for the start of the new school year. A 40% increase in classroom space was achieved by extending the building to the front. New roof and roof lights were fitted, cloakrooms upgraded, acoustic windows and external cladding added, maximising the available budget. Specific consideration was given to the limit of glazing acceptable for acoustics. The solution was to design with the end user in mind, a rhythm of window shapes, sizes and positions respond to the varying heights of the young children.
